My beloved ice cream maker is leaking. It made several batches of extremely tasty ice cream and was well cared for. But it's Thanksgiving gift to us was a mess in the freezer and I am hoping it will convert this one last batch before it goes to the dump.

No Ice Cream For Me
11/28/2019
I used the ice cream maker once. The second time I made ice cream, there was blue gel leaking all over my counter. I have tried to plug the leak with silicone but it just leaks from another spot. Very expensive attachment and a waste of money. I am very disappointed with this and would not recommend it.

I used my ice cream maker all through the year. And I store it in the freezer. Maybe that's why I've never experience the blue goo everyone is talking about. My problem now is that the blade is not turning. It gets stack half way in the process of making it. Any advice on what to do.
Value wise, it was a blessing. I got it on a black Fridsy at TJX..

I absoltely love the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker. It is conveninet and easy to attach to the stand and use. We have made ice cream multiple times with no issues whatsoever, it is in fact, a healthier alternative is definitely making your own ice ream at home. You simply make sure the attachment is chilled and when you have all your ingredients ready, attach bowl and pour in ingredients. I highly recommend this. It is also easy to clean, follow instructions and you are set!

Ice cream maker bowl leaks!
Daibhidh
10/13/2019
The ice cream maker bowl has started leaking a blue gel. I believe it is the freezing gel.
The bowl has no visible cracks and has always been treated carefully.
I am hoping that the gel did not get into the ice cream and has not been ingested by any family members. I am also hoping that the gel is not toxic.
Think before you buy this product.

Should've Listened to the Reviews!
diamondinthekitchen

I read the reviews and a majority said don't buy this it'll bust and leak blue liquid. Well, I listened to the small number of people who probably reviewed the item before it busted on them and went ahead and bought the attachment. It made two batches of great ice cream. I took care to follow the manual and clean it accordingly. But the second batch of ice cream was the limit and like all the other reviews. It burst and is now leaking blue liquid. I know ice cream making tools can be finicky to begin with, but I expect more than two uses, especially for one this expensive. Save your money and look into another ice cream making solution. This one isn't worth your time or money.

This is my third Kitchenaid ice cream maker, as the previous two have leaked the dreaded blue liquid. Kitchenaid's warranty is wonderful though, so I have stuck with the brand. I'm still perfecting the art of ice cream, but overall this makes a product more delicious than I can buy. I look forward to every summer, and being able to experiment with new flavors.

Very Disappointed
deehdbj4
9/16/2019
The spring attachment broke when I attempted to prepare a Franeze gelato mix. I received this mix with my ice cream maker.
This ice cream maker was purchased from QVC. Because I waited longer than 30 days to use my ice cream maker, I could no longer return it to QVC. I was unable to locate replacement parts on the Kitchenaid site.
This part broke during the first few rotations. I couldn't salvage gelato mix due to broken attachment pieces. Again, very disappointed.

I bought on Sale and got a pretty good deal if you compare to regular ice cream makers. After a use, I would recommend to buy for intermittent use as the cycle to freeze, use, let is get to room temp, clean, get it to room temp, refreeze is a bit time consuming.
Another cons is that you have to poor the mix while the machine is operating (per instructions) and it is not that easy because of the arm getting in the way. Aka: you will make a mess. Overall decent and would buy again as I don't intend to make often and / or a lot of frozen dessert.

Leaking blue liquid

I purchased the ice cream maker bowl a couple of years ago, we used it for a full summer and had it stored for a summer, I pulled it out this weekend to make some ice cream and saw blue staining on the side of it, after washing it more blue liquid appeared and leaked all over the counter after the bowl had sat there for a couple of hours.
Not impressed this (not cheap) accessory for my Kitchen Aid mixer is no good, won't use it again due to worrying about the blue liquid leaking everywhere.

Nothing beats a great bowl of home made ice cream, right?
It's a great idea. But, mixing the ingredients, chilling them for hours.
Keeping the bowl in freezer for 24 hours, when you expect it to be ready to dive into, wrong!
Back into the freezer.
The last time I tried to use it the bowl busted open in the freezer.
Good luck!

This attachment never worked properly. The mechanism to attached the paddle to the spindle is poorly designed and manufactured leaving the entire apparatus useless.
Furthermore the website for Kitchenaid parts offers no replacement or upgrade parts to correct what is clearly a failure of design and manufacturing.

Bowl has quit freezing
shanes
8/23/2019
I bought this attachment in July 2018 and loved it for the first 5 or 6 months. It gradually took longer and longer to freeze the same recipe. The last 2-3 times I've used it, it won't freeze at all. We have used it in total about 15-18 times, about 1-2 times per month, and store it in the freezer after cleaning it up so it is ready for our next use as so many users recommended. I'm very disappointed that this unit which costs $80 did not last longer than that. It should not be a throw-away appliance after only 6-9 months. I would only recommend it if you have disposable in come to keep replacing it.

Really disappointed
Tmurph413
8/9/2019
I got this as a wedding gift 3 months ago and it's been in the freezer since then. Went to use it last night with an old family homemade ice cream recipe that we've been using for over 20 years. I've made it tons of times in our old school rock salt and ice one. However, this attachment never turned the mix into ice cream. I let it churn for 2 hours hoping something would happen but it just moved the liquid around. To say I'm disappointed is really and understatement... we love homemade ice cream and I'm upset I can't make it in here.

Worked fine, then started leaking blue liquid
Carly Therese
8/8/2019
I bought this ice cream maker a few years ago. I probably used it twice a year for those few years. Overall, it worked well while it lasted. Similar to other posters, I noticed the blue liquid leaking from the side one day. I was shocked - I never dropped or bumped the appliance or anything. I am very careful with my kitchen appliances (especially my KitchenAid attachments!). Ice cream makers really aren't essential appliances (for me) so it's just not worth the $80 to replace, especially if the design flaw is still present (which it sounds like it is based on other posters...). Even if I wanted to spend my own money to visit an authorized KitchenAid repair shop, it's not the type of issue that can be fixed! Really disappointing because I did enjoy making ice cream those few times!

Dasher Doesn't Fix Standard KitchenAid
strat
8/4/2019
I received this as a wedding gift. It has been the most frustrating experience. There is a screw that sticks out my Kitchen aid drive assembly (this is not uncommon based on what I have researched on the internet) that doesn't allow the dasher assembly to slide over the driver. Online you can read about that there are European and American parts and you have to get the right one. You can also read that others have taken a screw driver to the dasher to try and carve out where this random screw end piece fals that sticks out of the KitchenAid mixer. You should not have to go through such efforts for a KitchenAid appliance.
After calling KitchenAid customer service, twice, they assured me that this is right and that the KitchenAid driver is to just rest on the dasher in my case. I gave it another shot and was disappointed again when the smallest amount of friction causes the dasher to fall right off. I have several KitchenAid appliances and this is not the quality you expect when purchasing their product. I am extremely frustrated and exhausted by the amount of work this product takes to end with nothing to show for it.

I received this for Christmas, 2018, used twice and loved the ice-cream it made. Now we're in peach ice cream season again and I find the maker and it's carton soaked in blue liquid which I assume is the stuff that freezes. It's leaking where the maker sits on the mixer arms. Shouldn't this have lasted longer than 18 months?

We loved making ice cream at home with this until the attachment broke. I was able to finagle it to be usable for a little while longer but it is poorly engineered for long term use. The adapter is a plastic piece with a metal shaft going through it to turn the mixer. Unfortunately the plastic wasn't strong enough to hold the shaft in one spot and the tiny rod that is through the shaft doesn't provide much support.

Drive assembly broke on first use!!
Disappointed in Jax
7/15/2019
I have an electric ice cream maker but when my sweet husband gifted me with a KitchenAid Pro HD mixer for Christmas last year, I decided to consolidate my small appliances. Despite the bad reviews on the blue liquid, I took a leap of faith and bought the Kitchenaid Ice Cream Maker attachment in June. I attempted to make homemade peach ice cream for my Daughters birthday this past weekend. I had the mixture ready to go, attached the drive assembly, lifted the bowl and aligned the dasher to the drive assembly, turned it on to stir then poured in ice cream mixture. I even purchased a pouring shield so I could keep the mixer running as recommended while adding liquid. You can only imagine my shock and disappointment when the plastic drive assembly snapped!!! I found a replacement drive assembly for $40+. I originally paid $59 for the entire attachment so I don't want to fork out another $40-$50 with the possibility of it breaking again. I have always LOVED the Kitchenaid brand because hey have quality appliances. I just hate that I wasted so much money but didn't even get a bowl of ice cream.

As with every other 1 star review on this page, I too experienced blue goo. I have only used this ice cream maker once over the past 2 years (received it as a gift thinking I would enjoy it more) and today I was moving something in my cabinet and realized that blue goo has seeped everywhere in mhy cabinets essentially ruining the board. Blue rings, bubbled wood everywhere. Extremely disappointed as this is not something that should be happening with a product that cost, initially, 80 dollars. Such a shame.

I received this as a gift from Christmas. Just started using as it as the weather has gotten warmer. Used it three times and on the fourth time my only complaint would be that the drive assembly is a poor design. I put everything together and then poured my ingredients into the bowl and went to go turn it on and the plastic piece that spins the drive motor snapped. My complaint is when I contacted KitchenAid explain to them what happened they said they couldn't do anything without a gift receipt or regular receipt. I explained to them it was a gift I had registered it when I received it and they said the only thing that they can do is sell me a new part. Other then that love how the ice cream and fruit sorbetturns out.

We purchased this item since we love home made ice cream, we followed the recipes provided with the attachment. We made 2 batches of delicious ice cream, we were making our third batch of ice cream and a plastic part broke off the attachment and into the ice cream. We couldn't finish making the ice cream and never found the little piece. Needless to say our ice cream ended up being very expensive! The ice cream was great, the process worked unfortunately the attachment didn't last long enough to give this product an accurate review since we only used it two times and paid full price for it.

Bluegoo
7/9/2019
I've had the ice cream maker for a few years and used it once or twice a year. This year it was leaking blue liquid like many other reviews report. I contacted kitchenaide as directed in one of their webpages, but since it's outside of the one year warranty, I was offered a 20% discount to purchase a new one. No thanks, I'd rather buy a better quality ice cream maker from a company that stands behind their products for a known issue.

I received this as a Christmas gift, loved the attachment and how easy it was to use. After about 6 times of using it I noticed a blue liquid in my freezer. There is a crack in the bowl which I've read that a lot of other people have had issues with as well. I can't use it anymore as it is leaking this blue liquid and won't freeze the ice cream properly. I had not used it a lot and it never dropped so I don't know how this crack would have happened except it being a manufacturer defect.

I received the Ice Cream maker attachment as a gift from my mom a couple years ago. Finally last summer we got around to using it and made a great variety of small batch ice creams. Our favorite was to add Absinthe as a flavoring. However this year it began spurting blue fluid out when placed in the freezer. Reading other reviews, I feel lucky to have gotten one summer out of it but I hesitate replacing it seeing the recent negative reviews. Would like to know this problem has been resolved before ordering.

I bought this thinking that the reviews about the ice cream maker cracking were from misuse, but regardless of the effort I made to keep this thing intact, it failed after three uses. The plastic housing for the bowl is brittle. Just placing it into the mixer and using it resulted in a stress fracture above the back fixture. Please see photos and don't make the mistake I did. Pass on this thing, the quality just isn't there and I am disappointed.
